About Tara Canyon Raft agency

If you are looking for an experienced rafting team with high-quality equipment, you are in the right place. We are primarily rafting guides and organizers, and we also train new river guides. Rafting is our number one activity, while other activities are offered as part of multi-day arrangements. Thanks to our location between two countries and two national parks, in addition to water sports, our clients can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking to many beautiful spots within the national parks, canyoning at Nevidio or Hrčavka, jeep tours and safaris, various zip-line courses, via ferrata routes, canoeing, horse riding, exploring caves, waterfalls, viewpoints, sand pyramids, historical landmarks, cruising on lakes, and much more.

Northern Montenegro, home to Durmitor National Park, borders Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sutjeska National Park. It lies in the region where the Tara, Piva, and Drina rivers converge, surrounded by the mountains of Durmitor and Maglić. The Tara River cuts the deepest canyon in Europe and also serves as the border between Bosnia and Montenegro. In addition to these two national parks, there is also Piva Nature Park in Montenegro and Tara Park in Bosnia, offering many options for outdoor activities.

We are proud to say that we have more than 20 years of experience working with foreign clients, families with children, scouts, groups, team-building companies, celebrations, campers, private tours, people with special needs, and even pets. Our staff and guides are experienced professionals licensed for extreme sports and a variety of outdoor activities on the Tara River and in local national parks. They all know the local attractions and speak English.

The Tara Canyon Raft team was created by a group of river guides with the aim of showcasing local natural sites in the best possible way, while maintaining a less commercial approach. Our guides have honed their skills over many years working as local experts on rivers, canyons, and mountains. Our skippers, who serve as rafting boat guides, have years of experience and are among the pioneers of rafting on the Tara River since the last civil war. They view this work as a lifestyle. Each of our rafting guides participates in more than 100 rafting days every year, and thanks to our vast experience, we can organize rafting trips regardless of water levels, time of year, or location on the river. We often say there is no bad weather, only bad equipment. That is why we use only thoroughly tested, high-quality neoprene and boats equipped with proper foot straps. We also offer transportation services if you need a transfer from your location or the airport, providing a driver with a small car, Jeep, or minivan (for groups only).

Our main meeting point is Šćepan Polje (where the Tara River ends). There, we organize one-day rafting trips in the best part of the river, featuring the best rapids. At the halfway point of the trip, we can arrange a grill at the river bar for groups only. From Tara Bridge, we offer two-day trips down the entire Tara Canyon, while from Radovan Luka we organize extra-long, one-day rafting trips (covering deep canyon sections and the best rapids).

From the Brstanovica starting point (which includes a four-kilometer section of the fastest rapids), when water levels are high in spring, we add extra guides on board for enhanced safety and paddling—additional guides incur an extra charge. From Šćepan Polje, we also start Drina River rafting. Drina rafting can be combined with a one-day trip following a Tara excursion, or you can opt for a one- or two-day rafting trip solely on the Drina River. Although it is not as popular as Tara, the Drina has less drop but more water and features many attractive sandy spots for swimming or grilling along the way. For beginners interested in canoeing, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), we recommend a trip down the Drina River.

Several national park rangers and members of local rescue teams work with us as guides, and we offer private guided tours. Our favorite locations include Obzir Tara Canyon, Bobotov Kuk, Prutaš, Maglić, Zelengora, Volujak, as well as Lake Škrka, Lake Trnovačko, Lake Orlovačko, Black Lake, Piva Lake, Prijevor, Perućica, Skakavac Waterfall, and the Sand Pyramids in Foča. Our canyoning spots include Nevidio Canyon in Montenegro and Hrčavka Canyon in Bosnia.

In addition, Trsa village in Montenegro—as well as Velenici and Vrbnica villages in Bosnia—feature horse farms where we can take you for horseback riding. Zip-line locations include the Tara Canyon area next to the bridge in Montenegro, Tara Canyon village in Velenici (Bosnia), the Piva Lake zip-line in Plužine, Montenegro, and the Drina zip-line in the village of Bastasi, Bosnia. Rock climbing areas are available just a five-minute drive from Foča town, and paragliding is offered in locations such as Mostar and Jahorina.

Committed to protecting the environment, we encourage our guests to enjoy nature with full respect for the pristine beauty of forests and fragile ecosystems. All activities organized by our agency take place in some of the most beautiful and unspoiled natural areas of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina—especially in national parks like Durmitor and Sutjeska, where our commitment to nature conservation is paramount.

For food, we offer traditional meals prepared with as many local ingredients as possible in our rafting camp restaurants. For certain activities, such as two-day rafting trips, we also provide lunch packages in the canyon.
